In June 2018, SRI International and Qingdao Oceantec Valley Administration signed a strategic cooperation agreement in Qingdao Fuxin Hotel to jointly establish QDII.

With its strengths in branding, innovative management methods and innovative resource channels, QDII will incubate and train entrepreneurial teams with new technologies and business concepts to unleash their potential of becoming world-class companies. Advanced technologies or enterprises from SRI, Silicon Valley or other parts of the world will be introduced and high-tech industries and marine resources industries will be gathered, to promote the research of high technologies and the development of marine economy in Qingdao Oceantec Valley, as well as the globalization of Qingdao's high-tech industry.

On October 23, the 18th China Qingdao Blue Economic International Professionals and Industry-Academic-Research Cooperation Conference was held at the Qingdao International Expo Center to help the industrial development of enterprises, and the level and quality of the recruiting projects have reached new heights. Attending the Hailian Entrepreneurship and Innovation Forum themed on “Focusing on Innovation at the Bay Area and Stimulating Vitality of Talents”, QDII will assist Qingdao in promoting the building of international city and introducing overseas high-calibre talents, and make suggestions, provide references, explore ideas for, and deepen cooperation in sci-tech achievements commercialization.

Qingdao’s blue sea and green mountains welcome friends from far away. On October 27, the GCUC CHINA 2018 kicked off. Witnessing the establishment of the Shandong Peninsula Innovation Incubation Space Alliance, QDII and the experts in co-working space answered questions for practitioners to provide new ideas for the industry.

On November 1, Qingdao Oceantec Valley “2018 Ocean Innovation Salon” was held at New Energy Materials and Technology Institute Ltd. of Dalian University of Technology (Qingdao). QDII discussed the crux of the difficulty in industrialization of sci-tech achievements and explored new paths for the commercialization of university achievements with representatives from university research institutes, research institutions and enterprises including the National Deep Sea Base, Qingdao Research Institute of Sichuan University, Qingdao Research Institute of Wuhan University of Technology, Qingdao Institute of Harbin Institute of Technology, and Qingdao Ocean Engineering Institute of Tianjin University.
